Children Workshop: The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is the longest structure in the world made by human and is  included in the Seven Wonders of the Medieval World. Do you know when and how it was built? Why did the Chinese build it? And what do they use it for today? If you want to see it, where do you need to go??

Monthly Chinese themed activities for children in Hove Library run by a group of friendly and experienced Chinese teachers. The activities are designed to improve children’s study abilities while Chinese language, arts and traditional virtues are embedded.

Theme: The Great Wall of China

Venue: Hove Library

Date: Saturday 10th November

Time: 10-11am

Contents: 1) History and facts about the Great Wall of China. 2) Stories about the Great Wall. 3) Travelling to see the Great Wall. 4) Useful Chinese words relevant to the Great Wall

Ability/skill improved: Understanding how people used to live in ancient China.

Cost: £12 per child, £10 each for siblings. Fees include materials.

Suitable for children aged 4-10. For booking, email your child’s name and age to mail@educatioinchina.co.uk Drop-in possible if class not full.

Children Workshop: Chinese table manners and chopsticks

Contents: 1) Chinese eating habits and table manners for children; 2) Learn how to use chopsticks; 3) Game of chopsticks.

To learn:

1) The concept of Chinese food and eating habits.

2) What ingredients in some popular Chinese dishes.

3) Chinese traditional virtue of respecting the older generations.

3) Chinese words for rice, noodles, tea, chopsticks etc.

Ability/skill improved: Using chopsticks, basic Chinese words for food, to appreciate the older generations.

Cost: Special rate for summer holiday (July and August)  £8 per child. Fees include materials.

Children Calligraphy Lesson Hove Library

Photos of today’s calligraphy lesson in Hove Library! Everyone had a good time as usual. Children’t didn’t want to stop writing! They also learnt a Chinese poem of a 7-year-old boy from 1,380 years ago. This poem is about some geese swimming in a river in Spring! 🙂

The next session is on 14th April, with the theme –Chinese Legends.

Chinese Art Workshops in Hove Library Session 2 (10th March)

Theme: Chinese Characters and Chinese Calligraphy
Venue: Hove Library
Time: 10am-11am, Saturday 10 March
Contents: 1) To learn about Chinese characters (writing); 2) to practice Chinese writing with traditional brush pens (Chinese calligraphy) .
To learn: 1) Knowledge about Chinese characters-the history, the shape, the meanings, how they were formed, how many of them etc. 2) Introduction of Chinese calligraphy. 3) Ability/skill improved: observation, concentration, imagination, patience, good writing posture. 4) Chinese words: 日(sun), 月(moon), 山(hill), 川(river) etc.
Fee: £12/child, siblings £10/child. Fees include materials.

This session is very interesting to adults too, therefore we welcome parents to join in if there is seat.
