来自中国的手信

1912691228Alison has been to China and back (lucky her!) to our class today. She has brought us a lovely present from China. See if you can read and understand what it is?

上(shàng)海(hǎi) : the well-known city in China!

栗(lì)子(zi)馅(xiàn)饼(bǐng): chestnut filling cake

矿(kuàng)泉(quán)水(shuǐ)制(zhì): made with mineral water

Yum! Thanks very much Alison!

Will we inspire you?

Our Inspiring Chinese course will start the new term from 28th September. We are looking forward to having the lessons for another 10 weeks(every Wednesday)! Welcome new students to join us. This course is open to all levels.

Summer Party 2015

The Chinese class had a relaxing and fun summer party in Jeff’s boat this afternoon. Nancy made delicious picnic-style feast, Jeff prepared delightful drinks, and Fred, the cake man, of course brought us sweet treats. We had nice chats in Jeff’s lovely little boat, enjoying the warm sunshine and the sea breeze. We also went to visit Jeff’s neighbour–the swan family we met last year, who had just welcomed their three new family members one week ago!

Next Wednesday will be our last lesson of this term.

Visit our facebook album to view the photos.

Last year’s party photos are here.

A Happy New Year 1937

China On Film is a significant project of BFI (The British Film Institute). This project collected many “extraordinary, rare and beautiful travelogues, newsreels and home movies from the first half of the 20th century”. Some of the footages have never been seen before. In this post, we have picked a film that shows street scenes of HK in 1937 during the Chinese New Year.

“What sets this film apart from other amateur or newsreel films dealing with similar subject matter is its focus on the lead-up to the celebrations as opposed to the spectacle of the Chinese New Year Festival itself. While the firecrackers and dragon dance are striking there is a palpable air of excitement as Hong Kong residents walk through the streets bearing gifts for their family and friends.”
