Chinese Singles Day-what happened on Chinese internet yesterday?

It was Chinese Singles Day yesterday! 光棍节(single stick festival) is on 11th November. With 4 “1”s , it looks like 4 sticks! 🙂

光棍, single stick,  means people that are not in a romantic relationship in Chinese.

光棍节 is a new festival in China created by young people. It has become a trend that on the day single people shop for themselves and each other in the last two years. In the first 13 hours of selling on Sunday, the 50,000-plus merchants on Alibaba’s consumer-oriented Tmall.com took in 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion).
